It's a question every student has to answer - how do I pay for college? Fortunately, there are plenty of resources to help you in covering your expenses. Here are some tips in getting the financial assistance you need.

Undergraduate (Beginning, Transfer, Veterans, International)

Many financial aid and scholarship opportunities are available for undergraduate students including grants, scholarships, loans and work study. The following steps will get you started.

  1. First, find out if you qualify for federal or state financial aid. Request a Federal Financial Aid Application online.
    • You may be eligible for the TEXAS grant. It includes special funding for students that have received associate degrees.
  2. Apply for a scholarship.

  4. Contact your academic department for internship opportunities.

Graduate

Many financial aid and scholarship opportunities are available for graduate students. Opportunities include federal financial aid as well as a variety of scholarships, teaching assistantships, loans, and grants. The following steps will get you started.

  1. Request and complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  2. Apply for a scholarship. Also, contact the department in which your program is offered to learn about other possible scholarship opportunities.
  3. Contact your department about teaching and research assistantships.
  4. If you are completing a degree to teach in the following areas and are planning to teach in a school that serves low-income students, apply for the TEACH Grant:
    • Bilingual Education and English Language Acquisition
    • Foreign Language
    • Mathematics
    • Reading Specialist
    • Science
    • Special Education
  5. Research and apply for nationally competitive fellowships.
