International Undergraduate Applicants

  • International freshmen who attended high school in the U.S.

    Steps to apply:

        1. Complete an online application and pay the $75 (Fall 20, Spring 21, Summer 21) or $90 (Fall 21 and after) non-refundable application fee.

          Alternatively, you may pay later by mailing a check (address below) or pay through the SHSU Self Service Center.

        2. Send your official US high school transcript to SHSU

    Automatic Admission for Freshmen:

    Eligible prospective freshmen should graduate high school with one of the following diploma types: Recommended (UAS), Distinguished (UAS), Foundations with Endorsement(s) (HB5)**, or Distinguished Achievement (HB5) plans. Additionally:

        1. Automatic acceptance for top 10% regardless of high school GPA or ACT or SAT score. Students automatically accepted into SHSU still need to submit test scores to be considered for certain scholarships.
        2. Automatic acceptance for students who meet the minimum Composite SAT/ACT requirements by appropriate high school GPA ranges as indicated on the chart below (the requirements are based on a 4.0 scale):

    * For students who did not complete all 4 years of high school in the US a 2.5 GPA is required. If GPA is below a 2.5, the applicant will need to meet domestic requirements AND SAT/ACT scores will be required.

    If GPA and/or test scores do not fall within the ranges listed on the above table, applications will receive an individual review.

    The requirements summarized in the above table are for Texas high school students on the Recommended (UAS), Distinguished (UAS), Foundations with Endorsement(s) (HB5)**, or Distinguished Achievement (HB5) plans. Graduates of a non-accredited high school, home-schooled students, and students who earned the GED must meet the requirements listed in the SHSU Undergraduate Catalog.

    * Old SAT Scores are SAT exams taken PRIOR to March 2016 and New SAT Scores are for SAT exams taken March 2016 and after.

    **The Endorsement earned must be noted on the transcript provided.

  • International freshmen who attended high school outside the U.S.

    Steps to apply:

      1. Complete an online application and pay the $75 (Fall 20, Spring 21, Summer 21) or $90 (Fall 21 and after) non-refundable application fee.

        Alternatively, you may pay later by mailing a check (address below) or pay through the SHSU Self Service Center.

      2. Send official secondary school or high school academic records (transcripts, mark sheets, graduation certificate) in a sealed envelope to the following address:

        Depending on your country of origin, an advisor may contact you about specific academic records required.
      3. Submit an English proficiency test score- a TOEFL score of at least 79 (iBT or iBT Special Home Edition) or an IELTS of at least 6.5. SHSU is currently accepting Duolingo scores of at least 105 during the COVID-19 crisis. Notes:
        • If your first language is English, a TOEFL score may not be required.

      2. Send unofficial transcripts from all colleges or universities you have attended (copies are okay)
      3. Send an official third party transcript translation and evaluation. SHSU currently accepts translations and evaluations from NACES member agencies or SDR Educational Consultants. Notes:
        • The evaluation must be a course-by-course evaluation
        • It must contain a GPA on a US 4.0 scale. The GPA must meet domestic GPA transfer requirements.
      4. Submit an English proficiency test score- a TOEFL score of at least 79 (iBT or iBT Special Home Edition) or an IELTS of at least 6.5. SHSU is currently accepting Duolingo scores of at least 105 during the COVID-19 crisis. Notes:
        • If your first language is English, a TOEFL score may not be required.

      2. Create your SHSU Self Service Center account and upload unofficial transcripts from all colleges or universities you have attended
      3. Check for additional requirements- Locate your master’s, doctoral, or graduate certificate program on the Degree Offered List for other admissions requirements. You can upload all supplemental materials in the SHSU Self Service Center account.
  • International graduate students who attended a college/university outside the U.S.

      Steps to apply:

      1. Complete an online application and pay the $75 (Fall 20, Spring 21, Summer 21) or $90 (Fall 21 and after) non-refundable application fee.

        Alternatively, you may pay later by mailing a check (address below) or pay through the SHSU Self Service Center.

      2. Create your SHSU Self Service Center account and upload unofficial transcripts from all colleges or universities you have attended

If the Office of Admissions cannot determine if English was the language of instruction at your university, an advisor will contact you to submit additional evidence.
