Sam Houston State University is proud to announce the launch of its new Bachelor of Arts in Learning Technologies program, set to begin in Spring 2025. This fully online professional practice undergraduate program represents a significant step forward in preparing the next generation of educational technology leaders.

The B.A. in Learning Technologies is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the rapidly evolving fields of instructional design and training development. This innovative program will consist of 12 newly developed courses, each crafted to address the growing demand for professionals who can effectively integrate technology into various instructional curricula and human learning environments.

As technology continues to reshape the landscape of education and corporate training, the need for skilled professionals who can harness its potential has never been greater. SHSU's new program aims to bridge this gap by focusing on five key marketable skills:

  1. Evaluating the effectiveness of instructional technology
  2. Designing and developing instructional technology solutions
  3. Solving instructional problems through technology
  4. Using instructional technology to support learning
  5. Enhancing learning performance through technology

These skills are essential in today's digital-first world, where the ability to create engaging, effective, and technologically enhanced learning experiences is increasingly valued across various sectors, including education, corporate training, and e-learning industries.

The fully online nature of the program reflects SHSU's commitment to accessibility and flexibility in education. Students will have the opportunity to learn from experienced faculty while gaining hands-on experience with cutting-edge educational technologies. This approach ensures that graduates will be well-prepared to lead the integration of technology into diverse learning environments.

As we prepare for the launch of the newly developed courses in Spring 2025, we anticipate strong interest from both traditional students and working professionals looking to enhance their skills or pivot into the exciting field of learning technologies. This degree program not only aligns with SHSU's mission to provide high-quality, future-focused education but also responds to the growing market demand for skilled instructional designers and educational technologists.

We look forward to welcoming our first cohort of students and witnessing the innovative solutions they will bring to the field of learning technologies.
