Knowledge-Expanding Opportunities with LinkedIn Learning

linked-in-learning

In Fall 2021, the Human Resource Department at SHSU announced the end of contract with the SkillSoft e-library. SkillSoft was replaced with the LinkedIn Learning library, which is available to all staff, faculty, and students.

LinkedIn Learning is an award-winning industry leader in professional education and micro-credentialing. Courses cover a wide range of relevant subjects, from business skills and soft skills, to creative, technical, designing, and computer programming skills. With a digital library containing over fifteen thousand courses, there is a vast array of training options suitable to meet your annual professional development needs.

Rhonda Beassie, Associate Vice President for HR, shares the following:

“Training and development are critical for SHSU employees to continue to meet the ever-changing needs of our student population. We are excited SHSU Online is facilitating increased employee knowledge-expanding opportunities through making LinkedIn Learning the primary training source. I've always loved their platform and believe their cutting-edge courses, user-friendly access, and tie to professional networking provide great potential to increase the education and profile of each employee. We appreciate SHSU Online bringing employee training to the next level!”

How to Access LinkedIn Learning’s Library Through the Site-Wide License

It’s easy to access the LinkedIn Learning library. Just click the link wherever you see “LinkedIn Learning” on this article, or type in the URL directly: http://linkedinlearning.shsu.edu. You may be prompted to log into My Sam with your credentials. From there, you’ll go directly into the LinkedIn Learning library, where you can browse the catalog or search for keywords in the search field at the top of the page to select the courses you want.

Courses completed in the LinkedIn Learning library do not automatically transfer to your transcript in Talent Management yet. This feature may be forthcoming in the future as we continue to work on making the usability of this product as smooth as possible.

If you complete training in LinkedIn Learning and you would like credit in Talent Management for your annual professional development requirement, you can enter the completed training as “external training” into Talent Management (see Finance & Operations Human Resources Policy B-5 Employee Development).

Please feel free to reach out to Ms. Thieme (TJ) Bittick, Senior HR Manager for Professional Development and Communication, at x4-2328, or email tjb005@shsu.edu, for questions regarding the SkillSoft transition or your transcript in Talent Management. You can contact the SHSU Online support desk 24/7 at 936-294-2780 for assistance with navigating the LinkedIn Learning library.
