Registration Now Open for #DES25

SHSU Online is thrilled to announce the 14th Annual Digital Education Summit (#DES25), now bigger and better than ever! For the first time, we are combining two of our signature events, TSUS Faculty Development Days and the Digital Education Summit, into an expanded, two-day, fully online experience.

Mark your calendars for Thursday and Friday, June 26–27.

This free virtual event will feature one day packed with engaging sessions focused on cutting-edge trends, innovative practices, and proven strategies in digital education, and another dedicated to TSUS Faculty Development, where participants will explore how to put these ideas into practice. Whether you’re returning or joining us for the first time, #DES25 promises a unique opportunity to connect, learn, and grow.

What to Expect at #DES25

Day 1: Digital Education Summit (9:00 AM - 5:00 PM CT) – Dive into the future of digital learning with sessions on best practices, emerging trends, and innovative strategies. Networking: 4-5 PM CT

Day 2: TSUS Faculty Development (9:00 AM - 5:00 PM CT) – Gain practical insights, technological how-tos, and expert guidance on the future of the learning management system (LMS) Blackboard and online education. Applicable to all LMS users. Networking: 4-5 PM CT

Keynote Speakers

Both days will feature an inspiring keynote speaker. Stay tuned for announcements on these thought leaders who will provide valuable insights into exciting new developments in digital education.

  • Day 1 Keynote:

    Bryan Alexander, PhD

    Bryan_alexander.pngDr. Bryan Alexander is a futurist and scholar whose research centers on the intersection of technology and higher education. With a PhD in English Language and Literature from the University of Michigan (1997), his scholarly work demonstrates a unique interdisciplinary perspective. His academic career began at Centenary College of Louisiana, where he developed innovative, multi-campus interdisciplinary courses and established an information literacy program. Dr. Alexander currently serves as a Senior Scholar at Georgetown University, teaching graduate seminars in Learning, Design, and Technology.

    At the National Institute for Technology in Liberal Education (NITLE) from 2002 to 2014, he conducted extensive research on digital technology adoption in liberal arts settings and facilitated collaborative peer networks. Through Bryan Alexander Consulting, LLC, he continues to engage in research and consulting, publishing in influential academic and public forums. His expertise has been featured in The Chronicle of Higher Education, Pew Research, and other prominent venues. His keynote, Higher Education in a Future of Rising Storms, will explore the major trends reshaping colleges and universities, and highlight actionable insights for faculty, staff, and students.

  • Day 2 Keynote:

    Ashley L. Dockens, PhD, AuD, CCC-A

    Ashley_l_dockens .pngDr. Ashley L. Dockens is the Assistant Provost of Academic Innovation & Quality Assurance at Lamar University, where she leads AI integration and faculty training initiatives. She also serves as the Associate Dean of Policy and Procedure in the College of Graduate Studies, developing policies that support academic excellence and compliance across the institution. Dr. Dockens collaborates with institutions nationwide to ensure ethical and effective AI adoption in academic programs. She is a member of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Learning Technologies Advisory Council and chairs the AI Task Force for the Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders, where she actively shapes AI policy and faculty training initiatives.

    Her keynote, AI in Academia: Promoting Authentic Human Input, will explore strategies for balancing AI-enhanced and AI-resistant assessments to maintain academic integrity while leveraging AI’s potential for student success. She will provide actionable insights into fostering authentic student engagement and mitigating AI misuse in higher education. Attendees will gain practical strategies for integrating AI into their courses while ensuring that students develop critical thinking, creativity, and authentic engagement in their learning experiences.

For 14 years, the Digital Education Summit has brought educators together to explore the ever-changing landscape of digital learning. What began as a small gathering has grown into a leading event where faculty, instructional designers, and education leaders share insights, discover new technologies, and shape the future of online education.
