SHSU Online Student Data Backup Recommendations
University policy regulates the routine and established backup of student data as it pertains critical information relating to the student’s permanent record, i.e. confidential data and other data considered to be of institutional value (Data Backup Policy: IT-11). Such data may include, but is not limited to final grades, credits completed, and general demographic student information.
While SHSU employs extensive processes for backups of critical data, it is the student’s responsibility to ensure they routinely create backups of course documents, such as homework assignments, essays, reports, presentations, and other course related materials the student wishes to retain.
SHSU Online is not responsible for backing up, or retrieving, assignment submissions, presentations, papers, reports, essays, or any other submission made by the student for the purposes of an online course or grade.
It is important to keep in mind that access to Blackboard courses ends after the last day of the semester. Students intending to retain, or access, submitted course documents after the semester has ended, will need to save it locally to a machine, hard drive, and/or other storage mechanism. Creating a routine and schedule for backing up and storing multiple copies of student work is strongly recommended.
