- Several of Sam Houston State University’s online programs performed very well in U.S. News & World Report’s rankings of 2015 Best Online Programs for Veterans.
- We offer financial aid and tuition assistance to new student veterans, returning veterans, transferring veterans, Chapter 31 veterans, Hazlewood veterans, and dependents.
- SHSU’s Veterans Resource Center, an office composed entirely of passionate veterans, is a one-stop shop for those seeking to use government and state benefits to help pay for their education.
- SHSU is one of the few campuses in Texas to process all VA educational benefits and Hazlewood waivers in-house.
- SHSU is one of four campuses in the state to employ a Department of Veterans Affairs counselor, an employee able to directly answer any questions or solve any problems regarding VA benefits.
- The VRC personally evaluates all military transcripts, allowing candidates to acquire the maximum value of their transfer credits.
- Servicemen, servicewomen, and dependents who obtain benefits receive priority registration.
- Students who accept benefits will be recognized with a set of cords to honor them at graduation.
