Financial Aid and Scholarships

We know that funding your education is a substantial investment, and it can be somewhat confusing determining which type of funding is the best option. That's why SHSU offers a number of options for qualified students.

Check out the types of financial aid available, and contact us if you have any questions.

Types of Financial Aid Available

Grants

Grants are outright financial gifts that you don't have to repay. Some common grants include the Federal Pell Grant and the TEXAS Grant. Each grant will have its own eligibility requirements.

Scholarships

Scholarships, like grants, don't have to be repaid. Scholarships are offered through private endowments and academic organizations.

Loans

A loan is financial assistance that enables you to borrow money from the federal government, state government or private lenders. Unlike grants or scholarships, loans are repaid according to their terms.

Work Study

Work Study can help you pay for your college by providing you with employment while you complete your degree and continue to meet the standards required for financial aid.

To find out which type of financial aid is available to you, see the Sam Houston State University financial aid office website, or contact us and we'll be happy to help.
