SHSU Online is pleased to welcome Jordan Hickerson as our new Online Professional Learning Coordinator.
Jordan is excited to rejoin the Bearkat community after graduating years ago with a B.B.A in general business administration. In his time since graduation, Jordan worked in business and healthcare industries.
He studied Chinese International Education at Hainan Normal University in Haikou, China, and worked as a purchasing agent for Applied Materials in Xi’an. He also has worked for Amazon, and a physical therapy clinic in Houston.
Just before joining the SHSU Online team, Jordan decided to continue his education at Rice University by completing a FinTech bootcamp that focused on data analytics and increasing efficiencies in handling financial data.
According to Jordan, “my combination of supply chain, healthcare, and financial technology experience has equipped me to engage and support the needs of our online learning community.” He hopes to foster a unique learning experience for online professional learning at the university.
As the Director of Online Professional Learning, Jonathan Kinsey, says: “I’m thrilled to have Jordan on board. His experience in data analysis and business will be a huge asset as we begin to develop online professional learning opportunities.”
The 24/7 Online Support Desk welcomes two new staff members to the team, Kevin Solorzano and Marvanisha Lewis. Both are joining the Online Support Desk as Technology Support Analysts, where they will work directly with the faculty and students at Sam Houston State University solving technology support requests with Blackboard. Both Kevin and Marvanisha will both be invaluable to our team as our technology support services continue to expand and the number of support requests continue to increase each semester.
Kevin expressed his eagerness with joining the Online Support Desk.
"I am extremely excited to work with the online support team. Previously, having worked in Higher Education with the University of Houston, I genuinely found a setting in which I can call home. Although, it should have been obvious to me since my family is full of teachers and nurses! The opportunity to help students succeed and reach their potential is something I strive for. It's exciting to have students and faculty thank you for your service every day, it motivates me to work harder and to continue to improve upon myself even further. I am looking forward to helping the team and calling SHSU Online my new home. Go Bearkats!”
Next, the Online Support Desk sat down with Marvanisha Lewis.
Marvanisha said, “I love helping others and learning new things so the idea of supporting the faculty and students at Sam Houston State University appealed to me in almost every way! I am a Bearkat. I love Sam Houston State University. I received both my Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and my Master of Science in Victim Services Management from SHSU. Learning to use Blackboard in a previous role has allowed me to have a unique perspective on its usage and support. I am looking forward to putting my knowledge and skills to work, and belonging to such a strong team like the Online Support Desk is something I have always wanted to be a part of. I am looking forward to meeting and getting to work with everyone at SHSU Online.”
