SHSU Online students do their coursework in the Blackboard learning management system. Here are some specifics on important online tools within or associated with Blackboard, including Respondus LockDown Browser, Blackboard Mobile App, Blackboard Collaborate, Blackboard Student Learn, and NBC Learn.
Respondus Lockdown Browser
The Lockdown Browser secures the exam environment within certain Blackboard courses. When it is used during an online exam, you are unable to go to other URLs, switch applications, take screenshots, copy questions or print. Some faculty require this on their exams. It can be accessed from inside of your logged in Blackboard account if you are using a traditional computer; for more information, please contact the SHSU Online Support Desk.
Some faculty have enabled the use of the Respondus Lockdown Browser mobile app; this app requires iOS 7.1 or later and is currently compatible with the iPad only.
The Blackboard Mobile app allows you to receive mobile notifications when your instructor posts items in your courses and to interact with blogs, discussions, and journals. You can also submit assignments via Blackboard Mobile by linking your Dropbox account, allowing for active participation as opposed to a read-only experience.
Through a partnership with NBC SHSU Online is proud to present a wealth of news articles, videos and other resources perfect for use in your SHSU Online courses! You can use NBC Learn as a cited source or even embed it directly into your Blackboard submission.
